WETT Certification & Inspections in North Bay | Inspections & Certified Installations
Need WETT certification for your insurance company or a real estate transaction? Planning to install a new stove insert or chimney liner? David Mason holds both WETT Inspector and WETT Installer certifications—the credentials your insurance company recognizes. Every installation we complete includes full WETT certification.

What Is WETT Certification and Why Does It Matter?
WETT stands for Wood Energy Technology Transfer. It’s the nationally recognized certification program for professionals who inspect, install, and maintain wood-burning appliances in Canada.
Why It Matters to You:
Your insurance company likely requires WETT certification for any wood-burning appliance in your home. Without proper certification, your coverage could be at risk—or your claim could be denied if a fire occurs. WETT inspection reports are the only documentation most insurance companies in Ontario will accept.

Two Types of WETT Certification:
WETT Inspector Certification
WETT Installer Certification
David Mason holds both certifications, meaning we can inspect your existing system OR install new equipment with complete WETT documentation.
WETT Inspections for Insurance & Real Estate
What to Expect During Your WETT Inspection
Step 1: Documentation Review (10 minutes)
We review any existing documentation you have and discuss your specific requirements—whether for insurance, real estate, or personal peace of mind. We explain exactly what the inspection covers and what documentation you’ll receive.
Step 2: Exterior Inspection (15 minutes)
We inspect the chimney exterior, including the cap, crown, flashing, and any visible masonry. We document everything with photos for your report.
Step 3: Interior Inspection (30-45 minutes)
This is the comprehensive assessment. We inspect the firebox, damper, smoke shelf, flue liner, and all components according to WETT standards. We measure clearances to combustibles, verify floor protection, and check air supply requirements. Every detail is documented.
Step 4: Report & Certification (15 minutes)
We walk you through our findings and provide your WETT inspection report. Reports are delivered on-site or electronically within 24 hours—formatted for direct submission to your insurance company. Total inspection time: approximately 60-90 minutes.

Common Questions About WETT Certification
Q: What is WETT certification?
A: WETT (Wood Energy Technology Transfer) is Canada’s nationally recognized certification program for wood-burning appliance professionals. A WETT inspection is the only certification most insurance companies in Ontario accept for wood stoves, fireplaces, and inserts.
Q: Do I need a WETT inspection?
A: If you have a wood-burning appliance (wood stove, fireplace, or insert), your insurance company likely requires WETT certification. You’ll also need one if you’re buying or selling a home with wood heat, converting a cottage to year-round use, or if your previous inspection is more than 3-5 years old.
Q: How long is a WETT inspection valid?
A: Most insurance companies require WETT inspection every 3-5 years, but policies vary. Check with your insurance provider for their specific requirements. We recommend keeping your inspection current to avoid coverage issues.
Q: Can any chimney sweep do a WETT inspection?
A: No. Only technicians with WETT certification can provide valid inspection reports. Many chimney sweeps can clean your chimney but cannot certify it. David Mason holds WETT Inspector certification, so we can provide the official documentation your insurance company requires.
Q: What happens if my system fails inspection?
A: We’ll explain exactly what issues were found and what’s needed to bring your system into compliance. In many cases, we can address the issues ourselves—whether that’s cleaning, repairs, or installing a new chimney liner. Once corrected, we can re-inspect and certify your system.
Q: How quickly will I receive my inspection report?
A: We provide reports on-site or electronically within 24 hours. Reports are formatted for direct submission to your insurance company.
Q: Do you install wood stoves?
A: We install stove inserts and chimney liners. Every installation we complete includes full WETT certification—you receive the documentation your insurance company requires as part of the installation, not as a separate service.
Q: How long does a WETT inspection take?
A: A typical WETT inspection takes 60-90 minutes, depending on the complexity of your system and accessibility.
